Best. Day. Ever. Love You, Babe.
The only way to keep a secret is if only one person knows it. I didn’t even call Deanna’s dad until we were in the park. No one in the world knew this was coming.
The plan was to get to the Delicate Arch, find a quiet, secluded place, and let my heart speak. The best laid plans…
I knew nothing about the arch. Turns out it is a giant nature made amphitheater with the arch on one side. The entire rim was packed with people relaxing, eating, laughing and enjoying the beauty. There is not a quiet and secluded place to be found. Plan B on the fly.
Ok, now very public with audience participation. We walked over for “pictures” and I let Deanna get a little ahead of me as I handed my phone to a guy.
Me: You need to take a lot of pictures. I’m going to ask her to marry me.
Him: Wait. What? Wait. Seriously?
Me: No pressure. Don’t screw it up.
I checked to make sure he was ready, then got down on one knee. Deanna was so funny. She thought my knee had buckled or something and wanted to make sure I was alright. She still didn’t understand what was happening.
As I spoke she gave me a smile and touched my arm thinking I was just saying sweet things. I could hear a murmur going through the crowd, wondering if they were about to see what they thought might be happening. Deanna was still clueless.
She figured it out when she saw me reaching in my pocket. So did the crowd. People started cheering and yelling. My favorite was a guy that yelled out, “YES!!! I was just talking about this!” You can hear it in the video.
Deanna was crying as I placed the ring on her finger.
A number of people approached us afterward. They had also taken photos and videos. I’ve attached a few. We are so appreciative of them for doing this. We received so many congratulations and we hadn’t even told a single person we know yet.
It didn’t turn out quite like I planned. It was so much better. Best. Day. Ever.
Love you, babe.
